Information for parents

Babies

We have 2 rooms for the use of parents with babies.  Firstly, the Mothers’ Room (next to the ladies’ toilets) is where you can feed and change your baby in private, while still being able to follow what is happening in the main meeting.  For older babies, we have the Cry Room (behind the main hall) where there are toys to keep your baby entertained and parents can still see and hear everything in the main meeting.

Toddlers

In the foyer, we have a super fun play area for 0 – 5-year-olds. This is open before, during, and after the service to keep our under 5-year-olds busy.  Please note that you will need to supervise your child at all times while using these facilities. A speaker in the foyer will ensure that you are able to follow the sermon.

Children’s Ministry

On most Sundays, all children join with the adults for approximately 20 minutes of worship because we believe it is essential that children experience corporate worship with adults modelling what worship is all about. Then children aged 2 – 12 years old (Grade 6) go out to their different groups (Urban Shout, Buzz, Echo, and Remix) where they are able to meet friends, have fun and grow spiritually. We believe that children learn best when they are having fun, so we include a wide variety of games, drama, and creative activities in our teaching program.

Urban Revolution teenagers, aged 13 – 16 (Grades 7 – 10), go out for 8 weeks of every term but stay in the sermon for 2 weeks to help them get used to staying in the sermon and adjust to the transition of one day leaving Revolution.

Pre-school children (Shout & Buzz) are provided with water and fruit and primary school children are provided with juice and a biscuit during the morning. In the winter, Urban Revolution teenagers enjoy the privilege of helping themselves to hot chocolate, tea and coffee.

Our leaders are a group of enthusiastic volunteers who love children and who want to make a difference in their lives. They are known and trusted members of Urban Voice and we regularly carry out police checks on our leaders as required by our child protection policy.

All-Age Meetings

A couple of times a year we have an ‘All Age’ meeting, which caters for children and adults. The children do not go out on these Sundays, which are usually based on a special theme. These services are highlights in our calendar.

Children’s Worship

We believe that it is good for our church family to worship God together. During the 20 minutes that the children are in the main meeting, worship is modelled by our adults, who in turn are encouraged by the enthusiastic participation of the children. Throughout the term, there are also regular times of children’s worship where we are able to focus specifically on leading children into God’s presence.

Language

The majority of our children speak English, Afrikaans, or isiXhosa. Within each team, we aim to have leaders able to speak these languages.
